May 13, 2025, 9:51 p.m. ET

AsianFin -- Tesla CEO Elon Musk has expressed interest in bringing the company’s robotaxi service to Saudi Arabia, where Uber is already preparing to deploy autonomous vehicles later this year.

Speaking at the U.S.-Saudi Investment Forum on Tuesday, Musk emphasized the future of robotics in the kingdom, particularly self-driving technology.

"Really, you can think of future cars as robots on four wheels," Musk said during a discussion with Abdullah Alswaha, Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Communications and Information Technology. "I think it would be very exciting to have autonomous vehicles here in the Kingdom if you're amenable."

Musk did not specify a timeline or provide further details on the potential expansion.

Tesla has not yet rolled out its robotaxi service publicly in any market. A pilot is expected to launch in Austin, Texas this June, with Musk previously stating that the rollout could accelerate quickly after that.
