‘Bullying Leads to Self-Isolation,’ Xi Warns After U.S.-China Trade Truce

AsianFin -- Chinese President Xi Jinping condemned “bullying” and “hegemonism” in his first public remarks following a major breakthrough in trade negotiations between the United States and China.

Speaking at a summit in Beijing on Tuesday attended by officials from Latin America and the Caribbean, Xi said the world is undergoing profound transformations “unseen in a century,” making global unity and cooperation more vital than ever.

“There are no winners in tariff wars or trade wars,” Xi said. “Bullying or hegemonism only leads to self-isolation,” he added—reiterating a consistent message throughout the trade conflict with U.S. President Donald Trump.

His comments came just a day after Washington and Beijing agreed to significantly scale back tariffs on each other’s goods for a 90-day period, marking a surprise de-escalation in the long-running trade war and sending a wave of optimism through global markets.
