Samsung Steals March on Apple With Launch of Ultra-Thin Galaxy S25 Edge

May 12, 2025, 9:31 p.m. ET

AsianFin -- Samsung has unveiled the Galaxy S25 Edge, its thinnest smartphone yet, beating Apple to the punch as the tech giants race to debut next-generation ultrathin devices.

Announced Monday, the Galaxy S25 Edge is now available for preorder at $1,099 and will hit shelves on May 30. The new model boasts a 6.7-inch AMOLED 2X display and dual rear cameras, all housed in a sleek body that’s thinner and lighter than any current flagship device from Samsung or Apple.

At just 5.8 millimeters (0.22 inches) thick, the S25 Edge is slimmer than Apple’s iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max, which measure 0.32 inches, and even trimmer than Samsung’s own S25+ and S25 Ultra, which come in at 0.28 and 0.32 inches, respectively.

Apple is widely expected to unveil its own slimmed-down device, the so-called "iPhone Air," later this year. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple’s design aims to reduce the iPhone’s thickness by around 2 millimeters — to approximately 6.2 millimeters (0.24 inches) — still leaving it slightly thicker than Samsung’s latest release.
