AsianFin -- The European Union is preparing to propose tariffs on Boeing aircraft as part of a broader strategy to escalate retaliatory measures should trade negotiations with the United States break down, the Financial Times reported on Wednesday.

Citing two sources familiar with the matter, the report said the European Commission — which manages the bloc's trade policy — aims to include civilian aircraft in a list targeting approximately $100 billion worth of U.S. imports annually.
