AsianFin -- Waymo reminded the public Thursday that its ambitions extend beyond robotaxis, announcing early-stage discussions with Toyota Motor Corporation to bring its autonomous driving technology to personally owned vehicles.

In a joint statement, the Alphabet-owned company and Toyota said they are exploring a potential partnership that could also see Toyota supplying vehicles for Waymo’s autonomous ride-hailing fleet.

“At the same time, the companies will explore how to leverage Waymo's autonomous technology and Toyota's vehicle expertise to enhance next-generation personally owned vehicles (POVs),” the companies said. “The scope of the collaboration will continue to evolve through ongoing discussions.”
