Temu and Shein Hike U.S. Prices as Trump’s 120% Tariffs Loom

Apr 26, 2025, 10:14 p.m. ET

AsianFin -- Chinese e-commerce giants Temu and Shein are raising prices for American shoppers in response to the Trump administration’s new tariffs on Chinese imports.

Beginning May 2, 2025, a sweeping 120% tariff will take effect, ending the de minimis exemption that previously allowed goods under $800 to enter the U.S. duty-free.

Temu has raised prices on items such as patio chairs and bathing suits by as much as 91%, while Shein has also adjusted its pricing and temporarily pulled some products from its platform. These moves are aimed at offsetting the sharp increase in operational costs triggered by the new tariffs.
