AsianFin -- Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan kicked off his first quarterly earnings call as the company’s new leader with a sweeping announcement: a major workplace overhaul aimed at reigniting innovation across the embattled chip giant.
Tan revealed that he’s reshaping Intel’s organizational structure so that leaders of all critical product manufacturing teams now report directly to him. He also introduced a new return-to-office mandate, requiring employees to be in the office four days a week starting in the third quarter.
“We’re focused on bringing back key talent we’ve lost and aggressively hiring new innovators,” Tan said, acknowledging Intel’s recent struggles with executive turnover.
While Intel didn’t confirm any details during the call, reports suggest the company is preparing to cut up to 20% of its workforce. These potential layoffs would follow previous rounds of 12,000 job cuts in 2022 and 15,000 more in 2024.
Tan emphasized a push toward leaner, more agile operations. “We’re empowering smaller teams to move faster and make smarter decisions—and we’re cutting down the layers of bureaucracy that have slowed us down for too long,” he said.
