Microsoft Fixes Windows Server 2025 Blue Screen and Installation Issues

Apr 24, 2025, 6:47 a.m. ET

AsianFin -- Microsoft has confirmed it has resolved several known issues that caused blue screens and installation failures on Windows Server 2025.

The company recently updated its support documentation, acknowledging that affected devices could experience failed or stalled installation upgrades, and in some cases, server boot times extending beyond three hours. Blue screen errors could also occur during startup, reboot, or when running applications.

Microsoft noted that the issues primarily impacted systems with more than 256 logical processors. IT administrators are advised to check processor counts to determine whether their systems are affected.

The problems were addressed in the KB5046617 cumulative update, released on November 12, 2024. However, Microsoft only officially confirmed the fixes five months later.
