AsianFin -- Xiaomi on Wednesday dismissed reports suggesting a delay in the launch of its anticipated YU7 electric SUV, reaffirming that the model remains on track to hit the market in June or July, as previously announced by CEO Lei Jun.
“The launch timeline has not changed,” said Wang Hua, Xiaomi’s head of public relations, via his personal Weibo account. His comments came after Bloomberg reported that Xiaomi had not confirmed a new release date for the YU7 and would not launch the vehicle in early summer as planned.
Xiaomi also confirmed that the YU7 will not appear at this year’s Shanghai auto show, disappointing fans and analysts who had expected a high-profile reveal of what’s seen as a potential challenger to Tesla’s Model Y. The company is taking a more subdued approach this year, skipping a press conference and instead showcasing only its SU7 and SU7 Ultra models.
The move contrasts sharply with Xiaomi’s splashy debut at last year’s Beijing auto show, where it unveiled its first EV, the SU7 sedan, to wide acclaim.
