AsianFin -- Chinese regulators have instructed major e-commerce platforms to phase out the "refund without return" policy in a bid to ease financial strain on merchants, according to two people familiar with the matter.

Authorities recently held meetings with platform operators including PDD Holdings and determined that the policy must end by July. Going forward, only merchants will be allowed to initiate refunds, the sources said, though a specific enforcement date was not disclosed.
