AsianFin -- Intel’s newly appointed CEO, Lip-Bu Tan, is restructuring the semiconductor giant's leadership team by streamlining its management structure. According to a memo obtained by Reuters, Tan is flattening the leadership hierarchy, with key chip divisions now reporting directly to him.

As part of this reorganization, Tan has promoted Sachin Katti, the head of Intel’s networking chip division, to the role of chief technology officer (CTO) and artificial intelligence chief.

These leadership changes mark the first major steps under Tan’s tenure, which began last month, as he works to turn around the struggling Silicon Valley chipmaker. Going forward, Intel’s data center and AI chip division, along with its personal-computer chip division, will report directly to Tan. Previously, these groups were overseen by Michelle Johnston Holthaus, who continues to serve as chief executive of Intel Products. Holthaus’ responsibilities will now expand to cover new areas.

In the memo, Tan expressed a hands-on approach to leadership, stating, “I want to roll up my sleeves with the engineering and product teams so I can learn what’s needed to strengthen our solutions.” He also noted that he and Holthaus would continue to evolve her role, with more details to be shared in the future.
