Indonesia Warns Boosting U.S. Imports Would Cut Orders From Other Suppliers

Apr 17, 2025, 10:36 p.m. ET

AsianFin -- Indonesia's plan to increase imports of U.S. food and commodities would come at the expense of orders from its existing trade partners, Chief Economic Minister Airlangga Hartarto said during a press briefing in Washington.

Airlangga is in the U.S. capital as part of a high-level delegation holding talks with American officials over potential tariff hikes. Indonesia has offered to ramp up imports from the U.S. by as much as $19 billion—including about $10 billion in energy products—in a bid to avert President Trump’s proposed 32% tariff on Indonesian exports.
