AsianFin -- At a pivotal moment for Tesla, Saudi Arabia is extending an invitation to Elon Musk. The electric vehicle maker announced on Wednesday that it will host a launch event in Riyadh on April 10.
"You and your family are warmly invited to our launch event at the Bujairi Terrace on April 10," Tesla stated on its website.
The event will showcase Tesla’s advancements in AI and robotics, featuring the Cybercab autonomous vehicle and Optimus, the company’s humanoid robot. A Tesla team will also be available to answer questions about vehicle ownership, home charging, and other services.
Tesla’s expansion into Saudi Arabia comes as a surprise, given Musk’s rocky history with the kingdom.
In August 2018, Musk famously claimed in a social media post that he was considering taking Tesla private at $420 per share, adding “Funding secured.” He later explained in a company blog that he had held discussions with Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) starting in early 2017 about a potential buyout. However, the deal never materialized, leading to legal and regulatory scrutiny.
Despite past tensions, Tesla’s entry into the Saudi market signals a new chapter in its relationship with the kingdom.
