AsianFin – JD.com founder and chairman Richard Liu voiced support for the company’s food delivery service in a social media post, emphasizing the importance of ensuring fair treatment for delivery workers.

Liu shared an article highlighting that JD Food Delivery’s full-time riders have surpassed 10,000, with the platform covering the full cost of their social security benefits, including pensions and health insurance. Reflecting on the past year, Liu said it was his most fulfilling in two decades of entrepreneurship, as more than 1,200 JD couriers retired with significant benefits—including lump-sum housing fund withdrawals of hundreds of thousands of yuan, an average monthly pension of 5,350 yuan, and full medical coverage.

“Our knowledge, business models, and algorithms should not be tools for exploiting those at the bottom of society,” Liu wrote. “Our profits, market value, and wealth should not come at the expense of workers without basic protections.”

He urged all major platforms in China to provide full benefits for couriers and delivery riders, stressing that given their strong financial standing, they are fully capable of supporting workers’ welfare. Liu called for a collective effort to improve the well-being of all social classes.
