Sam Altman Announces Birth of Son

Feb 24, 2025, 9:33 p.m. ET

AsianFin -- Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, joyfully announced the birth of his son on February 23, 2025, through a heartfelt post on X. Sharing a touching photo of the newborn holding an adult's finger, Altman wrote:

"Welcome to the world, little guy! He came early and is going to be in the NICU for a while. He is doing well, and it's really nice to be in a little bubble taking care of him. I have never felt such love."

Altman, who married software engineer Oliver Mulherin in January 2024, has not revealed any plans regarding paternity leave. The couple had previously expressed their intention to start a family.

The birth announcement has received warm congratulations from the tech community, including Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, who posted:

"My heartfelt congratulations, @sama! Parenthood is one of life's most profound and rewarding experiences. Wishing you and your family the very best."

To achieve his dream of having a child, Altman made early preparations by investing in a company focused on helping two men have a child and another company that offers multi-genetic embryo screening.

The first company, named Conception, aims to convert blood cells into human eggs. The founder, Krisiloff, is a graduate of the University of Chicago and had previously served as the director of Y Combinator Research.

Conception is now the largest commercial enterprise in the field, with the goal of converting somatic cells into sperm or egg cells. The company employs about 16 scientists and has received $20 million in investment.

In addition to Sam Altman, investors include Skype co-founder Jaan Tallinn and Recursion Pharmaceuticals co-founder Blake Borgeson.
