Hong Kong Post to Extend Suspension of U.S.-Bound Parcels

Feb 07, 2025, 11:59 p.m. ET

AsianFin -- Hong Kong Post has announced it will continue to suspend the acceptance of parcels bound for the United States. This decision follows recent changes in U.S. trade policies, including the introduction of additional tariffs on Chinese goods and the removal of a customs exemption for small-value parcels.

The suspension is expected to affect e-commerce platforms and consumers relying on shipments from Hong Kong to the U.S. Although the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) had previously suspended parcels from China and Hong Kong, it reversed its decision within 12 hours, resuming the acceptance of all inbound international mail and packages.

Despite this reversal by the USPS, Hong Kong Post has opted to maintain the suspension, citing the need to align with the latest U.S. trade regulations. This ongoing suspension may result in delays and higher costs for shipments, impacting businesses and consumers involved in cross-border trade.

The situation remains fluid, and stakeholders are encouraged to stay updated with official communications from Hong Kong Post and relevant authorities regarding the status of U.S. parcel shipments.
