Trump and Japanese PM Discuss Japan’s Interest in Investing in U.S. Steel Rather Than Acquiring It

Feb 07, 2025, 11:25 p.m. ET

AsianFin -- U.S. President Donald Trump and Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba confirmed on Friday that Japan is considering an investment in U.S. Steel rather than pursuing an acquisition.

This comes after Nippon Steel’s attempt to acquire U.S. Steel was blocked last month by former President Joe Biden.

A White House official clarified that Trump had mistakenly referred to Nippon Steel as "Nissan" during the news conference.
