Trump's Executive Order to End Birthright Citizenship Challenged by State Attorneys General

Jan 21, 2025, 11:33 p.m. ET

AsianFin -- 23 Democratic attorneys general on Tuesday filed lawsuits in Massachusetts and Washington state in an effort to block U.S. President Donald Trump's executive order to terminate automatic birthright citizenship.

Trump on Monday signed the executive order that limits birthright citizenship to people who have at least one parent who is a United States citizen or a permanent resident.

The executive order faces an uphill battle and strong opposition from not just the Democratic attorneys general but also civil rights groups, who have already filed their own lawsuit.
