AsianFin -- As TikTok confronts a potential U.S. shutdown on January 19 due to ownership disputes, another Chinese app, Xiaohongshu (branded as RedNote in English), is gaining traction among American users. The app surged to the No. 1 spot for free apps on the U.S. App Store and currently leads the Social Networking category for free iPhone apps.
They flooded in the platform and called themselves "TikTok refugees".
The rise of Xiaohongshu is partly fueled by TikTok creators promoting the platform to their followers as a potential alternative. While the fate of TikTok remains uncertain pending a Supreme Court decision, influencers are turning to Xiaohongshu as a safeguard to maintain their online presence and engagement.
