Inditex Denies Zara’s Exit From China

Jan 09, 2025, 11:30 p.m. ET

AsianFin -- Inditex, the parent company of the Spanish fast-fashion brand Zara, has denied rumors claiming that Zara is planning to exit the Chinese market. These rumors stemmed from recent reports suggesting that Zara had closed a significant number of stores in the past year, leaving only about 20 locations in China.

In response, Inditex’s China PR team clarified that Zara currently operates over 70 stores in mainland China, contradicting reports of an 80% reduction in its store count. The company emphasized that these rumors are inaccurate, and Zara continues to optimize and upgrade its store network.

Looking ahead, Inditex announced that Zara will open a flagship store in Nanjing in the first half of 2025, which will become one of the brand’s largest locations in Asia. The company also stated that it would continue upgrading other stores, including a renovation at the One Mall in Shenzhen and plans to refresh its flagship store on East Nanjing Road in Shanghai. Additionally, Zara is committed to enhancing its online platforms.
