Nvidia Criticizes Biden Administration Over New Chip Export Rules

AsianFin -- Nvidia Corp. has expressed strong opposition to impending chip export restrictions expected to be announced by the Biden administration, accusing it of undermining the incoming Trump administration with last-minute policies, Bloomberg news reported.

The new rules, as reported by Bloomberg, aim to impose stringent limits on the sale of U.S.-made artificial intelligence chips, applying restrictions on a country and company basis. This move is part of a broader effort by the U.S. to prevent advanced technologies from reaching China and Russia.

Ned Finkle, Nvidia’s vice president of government affairs, criticized the proposed measures in a statement: “The extreme ‘country cap’ policy will affect mainstream computers globally, failing to enhance national security while driving the world toward alternative technologies.”

Nvidia, a leader in AI accelerators used in data centers to train advanced artificial intelligence models, said the restrictions could have unintended consequences. The technology, rooted in graphics processing units (GPUs), is also widely used in gaming and other applications.

“It makes no sense for the Biden White House to control everyday data-center computers and technology that is already commonplace in gaming PCs, under the guise of an anti-China initiative,” Finkle added.
