AsianFin -- Tencent Holdings Ltd. has removed two directors it had appointed to the board of Epic Games Inc. following concerns raised by the U.S. Justice Department over potential antitrust violations.
The Chinese tech giant, which holds a minority stake in Epic Games and owns a direct competitor, Riot Games Inc., was accused of creating a conflict of interest that could violate U.S. antitrust laws. The Justice Department issued a statement on Wednesday, noting that Tencent's dual roles raised concerns about anti-competitive practices.
In response, Tencent has relinquished its board seats and its right to unilaterally appoint directors or observers to Epic Games, as stated in the DOJ's announcement.
