The Passionate Collision of EV Speed Challenges and AI Autonomous Driving, Says Secretary-General of the Intelligent Racing Foundation

AsianFin -- Tang Minqin, Secretary-General of the Intelligent Racing Foundation, delivered a keynote speech titled "AI Autonomous Driving Technology and the New Wave of Speed Challenges in the EV Market" at the 2024 T-EDGE Conference on December 7.

In her speech, Tang shared insights on how to build a full industry chain autonomous racing competition and AI education platform in the emerging EV market, discussing the latest market trends and products.

She highlighted the challenges in the autonomous driving industry, particularly around data collection and algorithm iteration. While Elon Musk’s Full Self-Driving (FSD) system has demonstrated the feasibility of pure vision-based methods, many car companies struggle to fully control both hardware and software for comprehensive data collection, unlike Tesla. One potential solution, she suggested, is to use highly interactive and engaging events, such as racing competitions that combine the EV and AI industries, to drive data standardization.

The Intelligent Racing Foundation, where Tang serves, is dedicated to advancing the future of AI and autonomous driving in the automotive sector. For example, the foundation sponsors the autonomous driving robotics platform at the University of California, Berkeley, collaborating with top talents across multiple directions. This effort has resulted in the development of a complete industry chain and an education and training program.

Tang also shared their initiative to train university students by providing opportunities through competitions and short-term experiences, helping talented students gain admission to top universities. Additionally, a new training base is set to open in Beijing.

Finally, Tang revealed plans for a cultural and technological integration project. In 2025, an innovative event combining culture, technology, AI, and tourism will take place in Zhangjiajie, blending these concepts in an exciting new format.
