China Imposes Sanctions on 13 US Military Firms Over Taiwan Arms Deal

Dec 05, 2024, 4:49 a.m. ET

AsianFin -- China has announced sanctions against 13 US military companies, effective Thursday, in retaliation for the United States' sale of arms to Taiwan region. The move follows the US arrangement for Taiwan's president to transit through its territory, further escalating tensions.

The sanctions come after China strongly opposed the US approval of a potential $385 million sale of spare parts and support for F-16 jets and radars to Taiwan, a deal that Beijing claims undermines its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
