AsianFin -- OpenAI is collaborating with defense technology company Anduril to integrate its artificial intelligence into systems used by the U.S. military to counter drone threats.
According to a report by The Wall Street Journal, Anduril plans to incorporate OpenAI’s models into its software to better assess and track unmanned aircraft. The technology is expected to enhance the accuracy and speed of drone responses, minimizing the risk of collateral damage, Anduril stated.
However, OpenAI's technology will not extend to other Anduril weapons systems as part of the agreement, the companies confirmed.
This partnership underscores a growing trend of tech companies engaging with the defense sector. OpenAI, which previously restricted its AI from being deployed in warfare, revised its policy earlier this year. Following the change, the company secured contracts with the Pentagon for cybersecurity initiatives and other projects.
The OpenAI-Anduril collaboration highlights the evolving role of AI in national defense, as major tech players increasingly contribute to military advancements.
