AsianFin -- Tesla's official robotics account revealed an exciting update on Thursday, showcasing the latest advancement in its Optimus robot. In a video posted online, the robot successfully catches and sets down a tennis ball with its newly designed hand, demonstrating impressive flexibility and dexterity.
The new dexterous hand, a key feature of the second-generation Optimus, has been described as a "milestone achievement" by Tesla engineer Milan Kovac. According to Kovac, the updated hand/forearm configuration boasts double the degrees of freedom compared to the previous version—offering 22 degrees of freedom in the hand and 3 in the wrist/forearm.
The video, which was recorded in a laboratory setting, was remotely controlled in real-time. Tesla confirmed that it is rapidly advancing toward producing robots equipped with these new dexterous hands, marking a significant step forward in the development of its humanoid robot.
