AsianFin — Fudan University has issued new regulations on the use of AI tools in the writing of undergraduate theses and designs. The "Regulations on the Use of AI Tools in Undergraduate Theses (Designs) at Fudan University (Trial)," released on November 28, provide detailed guidelines on the acceptable use of artificial intelligence during the thesis-writing process.
The regulations specifically prohibit the use of AI tools for various tasks, including research proposal design, innovative method design, algorithm or model framework construction, thesis structure planning, research topic selection, significance and innovation summaries, hypothesis formulation, data analysis, result analysis and discussions, and conclusion writing.
Additionally, the guidelines forbid the use of AI tools to generate or alter original data, experimental results, images, or illustrations in the thesis. AI tools are also prohibited from being used to directly generate any part of the thesis text, acknowledgments, or other components. The regulations further restrict AI tools from being used for language polishing and translation.
Moreover, thesis defense committee members and reviewers are also prohibited from using AI tools to assess students' theses. If a thesis contains confidential content, the use of any AI tools or uploading of data and images to AI platforms is strictly forbidden.
