OpenAI Pledges Early Access to Next AI Model for U.S. AI Safety Institute

Aug 01, 2024, 4:08 a.m. ET

AsianFin--OpenAI CEO Sam Altman announced on Thursday that OpenAI is collaborating with the U.S. AI Safety Institute, a federal body focused on assessing and addressing AI risks, to grant early access to its upcoming major generative AI model for safety testing.

In a post on X late Thursday evening, Altman provided few details about the agreement. However, this move, along with a similar deal made with the U.K.'s AI safety body in June, seems aimed at countering the perception that OpenAI has deprioritized AI safety in favor of developing more advanced generative AI technologies.
