Sales of iPhones in China jumped 22% year-on-year in the first month following the launch of the iPhone 17 series, a private survey showed Friday, even as the broader smartphone market softened.
The new lineup accounted for nearly 80% of Apple’s smartphone sales in China between the September 19 launch and the end of the month, according to data from Counterpoint Research. By comparison, sales of the iPhone 16 declined 5% during the same period last year.
The iPhone 17 launch drew hundreds of customers to Apple’s Beijing flagship store, highlighting strong brand enthusiasm despite rising competition from Xiaomi and Huawei.
Overall, China’s smartphone market remained subdued, with third-quarter sales down 2.7% year-on-year, Counterpoint said.
